How to share a ‘force copy’ of a Google Doc
When someone shares a Google Doc with you, have you ever gotten a screen asking you to make a copy before you can access a document?
This is a helpful trick if you want to share content with someone without them being able to edit your original material.
This screen asks you to make a copy of the Document (it works on Google Sheets, Slides, and Forms, too!) because the person doesn't want you to change the original content. This is helpful to know if you want to share a template with someone without them being able to edit your original content.
So here's how to do it for yourself:
You're going to go to a document, whether that's a Google Doc or a Sheet, and you're going to take this URL at the top and make a copy.
Then, you're going to go over here and paste it into the email of the person you want to share with.
And what you're going to do is just take off this last bit that says edit and put in copy.
Copy and paste to test, paste it into your browser, and there you go. It'll force the person to make a copy of the document so you can share a text.
And then they can repurpose it on their own without editing any of the original content you put in.
