How to set up a WhatsApp Business account

WhatsApp Business is a free tool for managing customer messages, automating responses, and even has the option to set up a mini storefront that showcases your products or services.

Here's how to set up an account:

  1. First, download the WhatsApp Business app from the App Store (or Google Play Store if you have an Android device).

  2. Open the WhatsApp Business app and enter your business phone number. This can be a separate business line or even a landline! If you’re using a landline, select the ‘Call Me’ option to receive the verification code. Otherwise, you’ll get a text message with a 6-digit code—just enter that to verify your number. Keep in mind that if you’re using this phone number on a personal WhatsApp account, it will merge.

  3. Select your business category.

  4. Enter your business name—remember, you can’t change this later—so choose wisely.

  5. Add your company logo or whatever image you use across your social media platforms.

  6. You can keep track of conversations by labelling your chats by customer type.

  7. You can set up a Greeting Message that automatically gets sent to new customers.

  8. You can set up other automated messages under Settings - Business Tools.

  9. Connect your Instagram and Facebook accounts.

  10. On your profile, add your website.

  11. Add a short description about what your business offers.

  12. Set your business hours.

  13. Add your email address.

  14. Finally, WhatsApp Business has a Catalog feature where you can showcase your products or services with images, prices, and descriptions.
