a bit about our founder, Marta

Hiya! I’m Marta de Movellan.

I grew up and went to school in Kentucky, Rhode Island, Texas, Madrid, New York, and at one point, I lived on a ship. 🚢

I started my career in London, managing PR for prestigious visual arts clients across Europe before returning to New York to run marketing and communications for several renowned commercial art galleries.

Burnt out from NYC, I moved to Austin during the pandemic for a healthier pace of life. 🤠

I am…

  • Obsessed with dogs 🐶 We have two rescues, Alma and Biscoff. They are the cutest. The cheekiest. The cuddliest. And the messiest.

  • Afflicted with wanderlust 🌎 I believe that travel can be the most valuable education and truly widens your perspective. While my bucket list is long, I am dying to see the synchronous fireflies in the Great Smoky Mountains, visit Petra in Jordan, and dive in the Great Blue Hole in Belize.

  • Passionate about art 🎨 Before my career on the business side of the art world, I started college as a studio art major, and I love to draw as a hobby. I actually sell prints of my drawings on Etsy!

  • Curious about personal finance 🤑 Ironically, I am absolutely terrible at math (to the degree that I wonder if I have dyscalculia). We aren’t taught how credit works or how to pay taxes in school, and it baffles me that these life essentials are not part of the curriculum in the States. So I attempt to teach myself as much as possible about it.

  • Learning to play tennis 🎾 I started playing tennis as a way to meet people when I moved to Austin – it’s so much fun! I had to take a break due to an injury, but I can’t wait to get back on the court.

  • Addicted to crosswords ✍️ I might have a problem. (Also addicted to Wordle. And who do I talk to get Connections out of beta and on to the NYTimes Game app?!)

  • Captivated by design 🛋️ Interior design, architecture, graphic design, user experience… it doesn’t matter, I love them all. If you too like design, be sure to check out the 99% Invisible podcast (The Sound of Sports episode blew my mind.)

I’d love to learn more about you! Send me a DM @studiomovellan 👍
