How to Set Up URL Parameters for Meta Ads

URL parameters are little tags you can add to the end of your website, links that help you track where your traffic is coming from. For example, if you're running more than one ad, URL parameters can show you which one is actually sending people to your site and converting.

What Are URL Parameters?

URL parameters are little tags you can add to the end of your website, links that help you track where your traffic is coming from. So, for example, if you're running more than one ad, URL parameters can show you which one is actually sending people to your site and converting. Because if you're spending money on ads, you want to know what's working and what's not.

Why Use Them?

URL parameters can help you track ad performance, compare different campaigns, ad sets, and creatives, and see what's converting so you can refine your strategy.

Where to Add Them in Meta Ads Manager

In the backend of the Meta Ads Manager, go to the Ad level. Scroll down to the Tracking section. Click Build a URL parameter.

How to Build Your URL Parameters

  • Campaign Source: I put MetaAds here, but if you are more granular with your ad placement, you could put Facebook or Instagram.

  • Campaign Medium: Campaign Name

  • Campaign Name: Adset Name

  • Campaign Content: Ad Name

I set it up this way so that all the levels of my ad are being identified in this URL (as you can see in the URL preview). Then you click Apply!
