How to update your website copyright year

While many people will argue that the copyright date on your website footer isn't that important, having the current year shows that you actively maintain your website. Here's how to do it on Squarespace.

New year, new copyright date on your website!

While many people will argue that updating your copyright date isn’t that important, having the current year in your website footer shows that you actively maintain your website.

Outdated copyright information or an old year might give the impression that your website is no longer active or abandoned. My Shopify site automatically updates this, but if you use Squarespace, here’s how to do it.

  1. Go to account.squarespace.com to access the backend of your Squarespace site.

  2. Click Edit and scroll down to the footer section.

  3. Update the year and click Save.
