How to add Alt Text in Canva

Adding alt text during your design process in Canva is a great way to ensure that you add this data to your images, just in case you forget to do it later! Here's how to do it.

Accessible design helps screen reading tools describe images, photos, or graphics to visually impaired readers. It also allows search engines to better crawl and rank your content.

  1. Once you’ve created your design in Canva then, right-click any image or graphic components and select Alternative Text.

  2. Type in a written description of the visual.

  3. After you’ve done this, then go to File - Settings - Check Design Accessibility.

  4. Here, it will show you if your Typography, color contrast, and alternative text are compliant.
