How to change the thumbnail on a YouTube Playlist

Since YouTube auto-sets the thumbnail on a Playlist, you may want to change it so that it matches the content and reflects your branding. Here's how to do it!

Since YouTube auto-sets your playlist thumbnail, you may wish to change it!

  1. To start, create your thumbnail as a ~5-second MP4 file and upload it to YouTube Studio.

  2. Save it under the Playlist you’d like to make it as a thumbnail for, and be sure to save the video as Unlisted.

  3. Go to Content on the left-hand side and then Playlists.

  4. Select the Playlist you’d like to edit and click View on YouTube.

  5. Then go to the three vertical dots at the far right of the video you’d like to make the thumbnail and select Set as Playlist Thumbnail.
