How to create a Google Business Profile

Did you know that you can create a Google Business profile, even if you don't have a physical location? It can help small business owners show up more prominently in local search results, collect and respond to customer reviews to build credibility, share your contact information and hours, and build brand awareness.

  1. Start by going to google.com/business

  2. Log in with your Gmail account. If you don’t have a Google account, visit google.com/accounts to create one for free.

  3. Enter your business Name.

  4. Choose whether you’re an Online Retailer, Storefront, or a Service Provider.

  5. Choose your primary business Category.

  6. Input your Service Area(s). DO NOT create multiple Google Business Profiles to cover multiple service areas if you do not have physical storefront locations in each. You can add as many surrounding service areas as you want.

  7. Add your Phone Number and Website.

  8. Enter your business Address. This cannot be a PO Box or mailbox in a UPS Store. If you work from home or don't have a storefront, you can toggle your address off, so it's not shown publicly.

  9. Add your Services. In addition to your primary business Category, these are keywords to help people find you for the services your business offers.

  10. Add your business Hours.

  11. Add your business Description.

  12. Add Photos. I recommend starting with your logo and a cover image.

  13. Wait to be Verified. They used to send you a postcard, but now you can verify through phone, email, text, or video.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Ensure you are the PRIMARY MANAGER of your Google Business profile! Too often, I see early-stage businesses delegate this task to someone else (an intern or assistant), and if that person moves on to another job, this access might be lost, and it’s a HUGE headache to get access back! Remember, there is no phone number where you can call Google for help.
