How to set up a Google Voice phone number

If you need a separate phone line for your business but need to keep costs low, you should check out Google Voice.

If you have an @gmail.com account, you can access the free Google Voice If you have a Google Workspace Account with a custom domain (ex: @studiomovellan.com) you can upgrade to the paid version and add more lines for other employees.

  1. First, download Google Voice from the app store on your phone.

  2. Sign into your Google account.

  3. Search for available numbers by city or area code.

  4. Select the phone number you want and follow the rest of the on-screen instructions.

  5. Once the app is downloaded, click the hamburger menu in the upper left-hand corner.

  6. Go down to Settings.

  7. I like to toggle on Forward Messages to Email and get Email Alerts for Missed Calls.

  8. Here’s where you can also set up your Voicemail Greeting. I like to toggle on Get Voicemail via Email too.

  9. Then go to Incoming Calls and toggle on This Device. This will send all the calls to your phone so you can answer as you would normally.
