How to set up content moderation on YouTube
If you are a small business owner using YouTube to grow your brand, you know how valuable engagement can be. But what happens when spam and offensive comments start showing up on your channel? Here's where content moderation comes in.
WHY IT MATTERS
You wanna protect your brand reputation. Negative or inappropriate comments can affect how potential customers might see your business.
You want to avoid spam. Bots are really misleading with fake links and weird comments, and you just don't want that.
You want to foster a positive community. You want real engagement. You want real people giving feedback, not weird trolling and offensive stuff.
You want to stay compliant if your videos target a general audience that includes kids. You want to be extra careful about filtering inappropriate comments.
HOW TO SET IT UP
First, you're going go to studio.youtube.com
Then go down to Settings at the bottom of the left-hand menu and select Content Moderation.
Under the Defaults tab, you will have the option to choose what level of content moderation you want, so you can do None, Basic, Strict, or Hold All. If you're unsure or if it's a new channel, I would choose Basic.
Then, under Automated Filters, you can manually enter words that you don't want to appear in your comments. You also have the option to hide certain accounts so that their comments never show up on your channel. If you work with a team, you can also add your moderators here so they can help manage comments for you.
